The new TV series Ultraman Trigger is set to start broadcasting on July 10th, Ultraman Day, on the TV Tokyo Network in Japan. At 5 PM every Thursday we will release the latest information about the series and its main cast!

We’d now like to introduction you to this week’s new cast member!

Shunya Kaneko will play Akito Hijiri, rival of the show’s protagonist, Kengo, and a genius engineer of the expert team GUTS-Select. Since his debut in the entertainment industry as a child actor, Kaneko has appeared on variety shows, as a model, and in commercials. This will be Kaneko’s first appearance as an actor in a drama, so look forward to a fresh and enthusiastic performance!

■ Akito Hijiri (18 Years Old)

Akito is the team member in charge of development at GUTS-Select, a team of experts that responds to monster attacks. Possessed of genius-level intelligence, Akito designed and developed the GUTS Sparklence, Kengo’s transformation item, along with the GUTS Hyper Keys and various other gadgets and vehicles used by GUTS-Select. Valued for his uncommon talents by the chairman of the Sizuma Foundation, Mitsukuni, Akito works as a genius engineer while attending the same high school as Mitsukuni’s daughter, Yuna, who he grew up with and has a slight crush on.

It’s nice to meet you all. I’m Shunya Kaneko, and I’ll be playing Akito Hijiri.

I started watching Ultraman, Ultraseven, and Ultraman Leo because of my parents. Since I was small, Ultraman has always been by my side to grant me courage. This year is the 55th anniversary of Ultraman and the 25th anniversary of Ultraman Tiga. I’m honored to be performing in such a anniversary year.

While I am feeling the pressure, I’m also excited about the world of the new Ultraman Trigger, which starts soon. I will do my best to bring inspiration and courage to everyone who watches. Let’s head towards the new light together!
