Award-winning global design studio XM Studios is releasing 3 statues from the hit web series Ultraman: A New Power of Singapore, available now.

To mark 55 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan (also known as SJ55), the Singapore Tourism Board collaborated with Tsuburaya Productions and the Ultraman series in 2021, producing a special video to commemorate the special milestone.

The 3-part web series, featuring Ultraman fighting various Kaiju alongside heroic guardian Merliger in Singapore, has been widely praised by Singaporeans, who have hailed not just the creativity, but the respect for Singaporean culture in the series. XM’s SJ55 series referenced key shots and locations from the web series and designed 3 different statues, each one featuring an iconic Singaporean landmark – Ultraman (Marina Bay Sands), Ultraman and Merliger (Changi Airport) and Merliger (Merlion Park).

Ultraman (Marina Bay Sands) 30cm

“After all, he was watching over us!”

Ultraman (C Type) stands strong in this statue, protecting one of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks, Marina Bay Sands. The XM Team took inspiration from the final episode of Ultraman: A New Power of Singapore, where Ultraman engaged in a battle against Red King, Neronga, and Gubila in front of Marina Bay Sands to protect Singapore from the Kaiju’s destructive rampage.

Merliger (Merlion Park)

“That’s the Incarnation of the Merlion, the Guardian of Singapore! Merliger!”

Merliger, the manifestation of the Merlion’s* spirit and the guardian deity of Singapore, debuted in the web series Ultraman: A New Power of Singapore. In the final episode, Merliger awakened and emerged from the water to join forces with Ultraman in battling Red King, Neronga, and Gubila, fulfilling its role as guardian of Singapore.

*Merlion is Singapore’s national icon, a mythical creature made up of lion’s head and fish’s body. The fish body represents Singapore’s origin as a fishing village, while the lion head represents Singapore’s original name—Singapura—meaning “lion city”.

Ultraman and Merliger (Changi Airport) 30cm

“Finally, These Two Forces Join Hands!”

The two heroes, Ultraman (C Type) and Merliger, join forces as they protect Singapore’s Changi Airport control centre. Ultraman C Type adopts his signature Spacium Beam pose, while Merliger stands guard, its tail shielding the control tower. Merliger, the manifestation of the Merlion’s* spirit and the guardian deity of Singapore, appeared in the web series Ultraman: A New Power of Singapore.

XM’s interpretation stays true to the concept behind “suitmation”. Each painstakingly handcrafted statue is crafted in polystone, individually hand-painted with the famous XM quality finish, and comes in a bold, dynamic, and story-laden style.
